When I first visited FCWC, everybody slept in 1 room.  The children had no beds and had to sleep on the floor.  Toilet facilities were very basic.

There was no money to send the children to school.

Twice a day, dahl baht (rice and lentils) was prepared on an outside wooden stove.

The children received little vegetables, no fruit and not enough protein.

There are now bunk beds for the children and the staff have been given hygiene training.  The children are also getting better food and are going to a local school.

More money is still needed for better food, education and health care.  Water is scarce in Kathmandu and untreated.  There is a high incidence of water borne diseases, especially typhoid.  We need to buy a water purifier, improve the children's diet, raise money for visits to the doctor and improve the living conditions.

Because the landlord wants to terminate the lease, we have found a new building for FCWC not far from the old one (see 'Updates') .  For details of how much it costs to help a child (See 'How to help')
